Eldoret is a unique town; with a unique history. The town is said to have been established early in the 20th century (precisely in 1908) by 58 families of Afrikaans who trekked to the Uasin Gishu Plateau during their journey from South Africa by sea. The Afrikaans were pleased with the climate of the region around the plateau and settled there.
Kakamega Forest National Reserve.
The county is also referred to as the food basket, or the cereal basket of Kenya. This is because of its high production of maize and other cereals. Dairy farming is also practised on large scale in the county.
River Sirikwa flows next to Eldoret Town.
The Moi International Airport in Eldoret is among the already four operational international airports in Kenya. The county also has a railway line which connects Eldoret Town with Kampala in Uganda.
