- Agricultural Activities in Turkana County
The county is mainly arid (at times recording less than 155mm of rainfall in a year). However; the community around the lake and other water
areas have practised small scale farming whereby maize and cereals are grown for domestic consumption. Livestock rearing is also practised.

There has been recent researches and exploitation of oil deposits in the county at Ngamia One region. There is also the wind-power
project and the passing of a power transmission line from the neighbouring country; Ethiopian Hydro-electric power station. The Turkana community have
also organized tourism expos in the county to encourage local and international tourists that visit the region to enjoy the Turkana culture and

Monetary institutions (banks) available in Lodwar town and major trading centres. Learning institutions and medical facilities are
also available in various parts of Turkana County. Lodwar Town (the county' capital) is also famous for it being the town at which Kenya's first
president; Jomo Kenyatta was first detained. There are also petrol stations, police posts and police stations at various parts of the county.
The many curio shops in the county sell artifacts and jewellery to the many tourists that visit the region every year.
- Inland Beaches and Fishing
The presence of Lake Turkana and the Turkwel river has lead to the development of the fishing industry; not only for domestic consumption but
also for commercial purposes. Lake Turkana is known world-over for its production of Tilapia type of fish.
Turkana County is mainly accessible by road; however, most of the roads in the region are corrugated. The presence of Lake Turkana in the county
has also lead to the development of water transport means like water boats for tourists visiting the Central Island National Park.
